Eastenders New Beetle goes like a bullet...

Eastenders star Lucy Benjamin has bought a New Beetle on a shopping trip with soap partner Steve Mcfadden.

TV fans reckon that Lucy, who plays Lisa Shaw in the BBC1 soap, bought the bright blue motor ready to make a high-speed getaway when cops catch up with her for shooting Phil, played by Steve.

Lucy bought the 18,000 leather-seated Bug at a car showroom in Slough, Berkshire - her first appearance in public since the nail-biting episode shown at the beginning of April.

The 30-year-old and her real-life boyfriend Steve, 41, signed hundreds of autographs for wide-eyed fans. She said "I've already got an old silver Beetle and now I want to upgrade. This new one is a great car. They go really fast and look really sweet. I'm ever so excited about getting it."
