Uxbridge Auto Show 99

Being a die-hard VW fan I don’t often venture into events that haven’t a strong air-cooled theme but this weekend I followed the club into the Uxbridge showground to attend the long running Uxbridge Charity Autoshow and I was far from disappointed. Its a huge event that attracts a wide range of clubs and cars, including Rovers, Minis, Skodas, Fords, Yank Tanks and many other vehicles as diverse as 1950’s ambulances and double decker buses.

There was plenty of entertainment including two bouncy castles (disappointingly these were for children only!), go-karting, autotests and stalls selling anything from hood ornaments to caramelised nuts! Although this wouldn't be the sort of event you'd go to for VW specific parts you can find all sorts of accessories and books, and especially Dinky toys. There were also a large number of period pieces such as radios and picnic sets.
The weather was absolutely fabulous (I have the sunburn to prove it!) and the club had many enquiries, including some new members. I want to say hello and thanks to Ed, Edd and Eddy for buffing up their vehicles and bringing them along to show off on the club stand. We ended up with 16 bugs, 2 buses, a variant, a Baja and a Karmann cabriolet.
If you're keen on cars in general then I would firmly suggest you go along next year and find out what the fuss is about – after 50 years this event is still going strong and its not hard to work out why.

Unfortunately other commitments prevent me from going to Bug Jam this year but the next big event in my diary is for the Run to the Eclipse on 7th August. There are still spaces available and at only £75 per vehicle for the week its a bargain. If you're interested then refer to the ad on page 13 of this months mag.
