The Chair's Chat

Hi everyone! Well summer is well under way and sunblock is a must when attending VW Events and Shows – I know because I came back from BVF with an embarrassingly red nose!!!

First of all, this month, I would like to welcome Fiona Hedges, Derek Bicknell and my beloved husband Gary Law to the Committee!
Fiona is already proving to be a great asset by helping with Wheelspin, and putting a lot of work into the organisation of The Run to the Eclipse, as well as organising other socials and mucking in with everything else. Thanks Fiona!

Derek has volunteered to sort out the Club Website, I’m not going to go into that now as Derek will tell all later in Wheelspin. Suffice it to say that it should please the Technophobe’s as well as the Computer Illiterate among us! Derek is also planning a Treasure Hunt for the end of September and a Booze Cruise to France in October! Gary is going to take over Membership Secretary from Angela, and the super-efficient Angela is going to assist Mat with PRO! All new contact names and addresses are in the front of the Wheelspin .

More on the Social front… we have the Camden Cruise on Saturday 21st August, and we are also planning a Barge Trip down the canal from Willowtree Marina ( where they film Channel 5’s ‘Family Affairs’! ) Keep the suggestions coming in for suitable locations for Socials…we still have the winter months to get through and then, of course, there’s next summer!

BVF

This year we took the Club Shop to BVF and we had a camping area for the Club too! The drive down through the Cotswolds was lovely the weather was fantastic, the atmosphere was really friendly, there was loads to do ~ a great time was had by all!!!
‘Congratulations’ to Keith Lessiter for coming second in the amalgamated Pre ’57 & ‘67 Concours at BVF with his 1949 Bordeaux Red Standard Beetle ( registration ’49 STD’). I also have to mention Derek Bicknell, who spent the whole weekend cleaning and polishing his dazzling White Beetle GAWSH which received a great deal well deserved of attention!

Vanfest

Don’t forget Vanfest is coming up in September ( 17th –19th ) ! There will be a cruise to Vanvest and the Club have a Camping Area booked! Ring the Hotline for details and to book a camping pitch!
Enough from me for this month! But to all of you going to Bug Jam, I hope you have a good time!

Uxbridge Motor Show

A big "Thank you" to those of you who came along to the Uxbridge Auto Show to display you VW's on the Club Stand. We had 16 Bugs, 2 Buses, a Baja Bug, a Karmann Convertible and a Variant ~ VW'S of all different shapes, sizes and colours! The weather was fantastic and we all had a great day! Thanks again!

Calling All ' Water Cooled

Today I received a letter from a Golf owner, Ian, who has decided to let his membership lapse. He pointed out that he doesn't make use of the benefits provided by the Club i.e. the Insurance Scheme, discounted RAC cover, the Discounts and Contacts List, Socials etc...as he has sorted all that out for himself.

Fair enough, these things are there for members to make use of, as and when required. One point that I would like to take on board though is the all too few articles in Wheelspin for water-cooled VW's. Louis, our Editor, relies on articles and letters sent in by members of our Club which they think will be of interest to others.

Hannah and Alex, two of our Committee Members, both own water cooled VW's and are there to represent you all. They also organise THE MARCH HARE, a London to Brighton Run aimed at water cooled VW's. So come on you lot, lets have some stories and articles about YOUR beloved Golf's, Passats, Polo's, Sharans, etc, etc, etc....

Jackie
