Crawley Classic Car show
The show, held on the bank holiday at the end of May,
is different to most events the club attends in that it is not a VW only
show. It is in fact organised by the Morris Marina owners' Club. Although
dominated by British cars such as Triumphs and hard worked Land-Rovers,
there was a great variety of lovingly maintained cars, from Skodas to
Chevrolets.
As well as the cars, there was also plenty of entertainment.
A large funfair, bouncy castles, karaoke stage (bring your own ear plugs)
so and stalls selling an assortment of goodies great enough to satisfy
a shopaholic. Plus there was a bird of prey display and a demonstration
by Border collies herding ducks!
The blazingly hot weather drew in the crowds and our corner of the park attracted a lot of admiring attention. We had five beetles drawn from the Sixties and Seventies and a New Beetle that Ian Street managed to borrow from a friendly VW dealer ( is there any other kind?) it's.
Mark Walters, who organised our attendance at the
show, won a well deserved award for his orange 1302 S Beetle. This show
makes a fun day out for all ages, because there is such a lot to see and
do, even for those who are not interesting cars (I hear there are such
people!)

Hopefully enough members will get in touch with
mark Walters to make another show a success. I will try and make the Lingfield
Classic Car Show on the Sunday - for details see page 3.
