Uxbridge Auto Show

The Uxbridge Auto Show, held at the Uxbridge Showground on Sunday 14th July saw the weekend clouds clear for long enough to make a great car show that much better.

The event is held by the Rotary club, and all money goes to charity, so this means that the event has a real non-profit air, and the show is given over to pure car enthusiasm. And what a range of different marques to see. Ours was the only VW club with a display, though I did spot a split screen camper and 2 Karmann Ghias (Karmann Ghia Club) in the concours display.

Everything was there, every Ford from Anglias and Capris to Escorts and Mustangs. Just some of the makes were, classic Volvos, Skodas, Fiats (including a 1936 Popolino ; Italian peoples car), Citroens, Mercedes, Daimler, BMW, Audi, De-Loren, MGs, Sunbeams, Jaguars, Triumphs, Rovers, Bristols, Lotus, Military Vehicles, Buses, Lorrys, Fire Engines, Cadillac, Oldsmobiles, Chryslers, Morrises To name but a few. Of course, the Middlesex Mini club was out in force, as was the local BMW dealer showing of the new Mini.

As well as the cars, and there were hundreds of them, there was plenty to keep everybody happy, with slides and rides for the kids, auto-jumbles and toy stores for the big kids. This was a really well organised event and one where the club is lucky enough to get a good stand.

Thanks to Jackie's efforts and the power of the internet we had a full quota of VWs to enter on the stand this year. You can see the lists at the end of this article. Our own car is in for its bodywork and respray in September so was probably the untidiest there. The quality of all the cars was excellent, and despite a squeeze on to a smallish plot, we managed with a good spread of vehicles. The display had Beetles, both stock and Cal look, Bay Window Campers, a Splittie, a Cabriolet, a Type 3 Fastback, a 4th gen T2 Transporter and a New Beetle. Thanks for everybody who came along and made it all a success.

Hopefully we will be back next year, since the event just gets better, and it is refreshing to go to a classic show where it isn't just VWs (every now and gain anyhow). Thanks gain to all who attended.
