The Cayenne- Porsche's Chelsea Tractor
Expect to see the streets of SW3 lined with more Porsches next year, but not necessarily 911s and Carreras, because Porsche is to launch an off road 4x4, the Cayenne, up until now code named E1.
Already motor magazine Auto Express has given
this SUV a warm review, saying it brings real Porsche performance and
a fun driving experience to the 4x4 market. The off roader (or vehicle
for taking the little ones to private school) may feature a choice of
engines, from a gas guzzling V8 350hp power to a gas munching V8 450hp.
Inside the SUV has much of the interior from Porsche's sports cars, including
the 911's sport seats and steering wheel. Customers will have full access
to Porsche's sports interior styling options.
Porsche has a keen focus on the American market
for this totally new type of vehicle for the Stuttgart manufacturer. It
can bring all the performance and style to the lucrative 4x4 market. American
dealerships are also keen on a pick-up variant ; but Porsche is wary on
what affect this type of vehicle will have on its image ; unless US farmers
and hillbillies have an awful lot of money to spend.
