New Polo wins award
First award for the new Polo prior to its market launch.
The new Volkswagen Polo has been distinguished by winning this years Golden
Steering Wheel at a large ceremony held in Berlin.
In Class 1 for compact cars, the new Polo, which is
scheduled for market launch in Germany on 16 November, collected the most
points and afforded itself a clear lead out of the five candidate models
in this class.
Particular praise was given by the 23-member jury
to the handling and ride comfort of the new Polo range as well as its
excellent fuel consumption and environmentally friendly engines. This
is the second victory for the Polo in its class since 1994.
German magazine Bild am Sonntag (Picture on Sunday)
has for the past 26 years awarded this title for the best new car. The
jury consists of motoring journalists, passenger car experts, racing drivers
and celebrities. Altogether, 20 new models were available for judging
in four classes for this much sought-after prize.
