Letter From
America
I'm
not sure what type of stuff you wanted to know about me for the article,
but here are a few tidbits:
I own two VWs: a 1981 Rabbit (Golf) and a 1974 SuperBeetle. I am the Webmaster/Newsletter
Editor for the Three Rivers Volkswagen Club, and I'm currently working
on the second generation site that should be live in late January. The
new site will (I hope) include items from the London & Thames Valley
VW Club. It can be found at http://www.geocities.com/~3riversvwclub
I've liked VWs as long as I can remember, and collect anything with a
VW on it. I have hundreds of toys (most are very common...a few are antiques).
Am I the first US member of the London & Thames Valley VW Club?
Our
club participates in road rallies, leisurely cruises, swap meets, and
car shows. One of the coolest events we participate in is called the "Pittsburgh
Vintage Grand Prix". This event is open to all cars, and spans the
better part of a week in July. On the weekend, there is a giant car show,
and real vintage racing cars qualify for Sunday's race.
The final day, the event kicks off with what's called the "Patron
Parade", where enthusiasts pay a fee to drive their cars around the
track and wave to people. This past year, two VWs snuck into this parade:
my 81 Rabbit and a 1974 Beetle painted like a taxi. We were placed there
by race officials by accident, but we were announced right along with
the Ferraris and other way-too-expensive cars.
If you'd like to see photos or movies (MPG format) from this event, just
let me know and I'll shoot them your way.

Buczynski
Daniel
Buczynski is a new member of the club and fellow member of the Three Rivers
VW Club with none other than Daniel Van Boxel, who is studying in Pittsburgh.
Since Daniel is such an avid collector of model VWs perhaps Peter Sturges-Allard
(see WS August 99) would like to get in touch.
