World Wide Web: Official VW Sites

Volkswagen Germany

The web is a great place to find anything to do with your hobbies, but like a gigantic higgeldy piggeldy library, its stuffed with good and bad alike, and finding your way around becomes time consuming. So here we’ll start a hunt for the better VW sites out there, starting with some of VW’s official sites, but if anybody finds a gem of a site, let me know and we’ll share it.
Volkswagen Germany

As in all Volkswagen corporate sites this one is very well designed. Apart from the usual corporate stuff about their latest range, Volkswagen Germany includes an online gallery of classic cars, and following Volkswagen USA, has introduced the official Volkswagen fan club. Like all big VW sites this one is constantly changing so keep it bookmarked.

Volkswagen Mexico

Although the English part of this site is currently being revamped this is still a must see site, if only because you can still see the Type1 (called the Sedan) and Type 2 (Combi) as well as the New Beetle (just refereed to as the Beetle). Keep an eye on this one.

New Beetle UK

The only trouble with this site is that it brilliantly showcases Volkswagen’s latest success, but inevitably, when you try to find out where to get one your told to wait until the year end. So this is both a good and a bad advert for VW. I checked out the Flash version of the site (requires flash plug-in for your browser) and flash it certainly is, very impressive.

Unleaded

Not a Volkswagen site at all and doesn’t even look too nice, but very useful all the same. Here you can find information on most pre 1990 car models from various manufacturers and find out if you can run your car on unleaded, or what modification you will need to adapt your engine. Wheelspin has dealt in depth with this issue but this site is especially useful for owners of water cooled cars – where you may be unsure if your older model car needs any adaptation or not.

Beetle Bits & Bobs

An enthusiast’s site that lists all those beetle parts that have changed over the years, from the bonnet shape to the rear view mirrors. Very useful if you are unsure exactly which add-ons should go with your car’s year and model.
