Crawley Classic Car Show
The event was supposed to kick off on Sunday
of the last May bank Holiday, but due to the wonderful British weather
the usual grass covered field was more akin to a large pond. I must quickly
say sorry to all those Club members that tried to attend on the Sunday
but were called off or turned away. There are plans afoot to permanently
rectify this problem for next year.

The event, never the less, took place on the
Monday as planned although in a slightly different location (the car park
of the adjoining theatre). The car park was about a third full of cars
when Vicky and I arrived in our Beetles. We were promptly directed to
one corner of the car park where we set up our two cars and the club banner.
The remaining cars arrived within the next couple of hours to complete
the display.
The cars on display covered various examples
of the Volkswagen range:
1967 1500cc Beetle owned by Vicky Walters
1971
1302s Beetle owned by Mark Walters 1973
1303s Beetle owned by Clive (Sorry I don't
have your surname)
1987 Polo owned by Martin Payne
1989 Golf GTi 8v owned by Ray Hardin
The
day was mostly spent talking Volkswagens, walking round looking at the
other Classics on display and when we were brave enough walking to the
food stands through the mud / pond. Half past three came and we all headed
over to the Morris Marina owners club stand for the Trophy handouts. Unfortunately,
although we had some excellent examples of cars on the stand, no one walked
away with an individual trophy. However we did win best Club Display for
our efforts.
A big thank you must go out to all those who
attended and were part of the L&TVVWC Display, Vicky, Clive, Martin and Ray because without you we wouldn't have won. To all those members who couldn't or didn't make it, thanks for showing an interest and look forward to seeing you at another club event soon - maybe a local Show & Shine with trophies, let us have some feed back and we will see what we can organise.
Signing off for now. Mark.
