Stonor Park 2002

What can I say, the Stonor Park organisers always get lucky with the weather. Luckily for me Paul Faulkner had some sun block which saved me from getting burned.

A combination of the England vs Sweden, Run to the Sun and the Jubilee celebration meant attendance was down this year, with fewer traders this year. That said it was still a great event with plenty of Volkswagens to see, as well as trade stands and the autojumble to make you part with your money.

Andrew Searle and his modded 1303

I took as many photos of club VWs as I could find. On the concours I found Volkswagens owned by members Andrew Searle, Mark Walters, Darren Smith, Denise Dring, Louis Loizou and Dave Impett. Apologies for anybody I missed, I had a look at the watercooled section, but this was dominated (as usual) by Club Gti. If you have a photo – send it in and I will post a gallery in next month’s mag.

Roy Gasson’s T3 Fastback

On the stand was Max Morley’s newly acquired green bay window camper “Kermit”, alongside Julian Morley’s 1965 bug and Caroline Harding’s Ghia. Also featured was Dave Impett’s Type 3 fastback – expect to see this one at Uxbridge. Caroline also owns a Type 3 ( as well as many other VWs) so there was plenty of discussion about Type 3s.

Joff Taylor also had his newly restores Karmann Cabriolet up near the Luke’s shop van (Luke owns Terry’s Beetles). This is a really mint restoration that attracted plenty of attention.

Denise Dring, a club member from Bath, who had her green bay window camper on the concours tells me her daughter colours in all the adverts in Wheelspin every month. With that in mind we have a colouring in page in this issue, this is for adults and children alike, so get the felt tips out.

All in all, it was a great day out (that is if you had sun block). I meet plenty of members new and old and that’s what it is all about. I also got what I wanted, a new petrol tank off club member Jeremy Lockwood at the autojumble. After repainting the last one and putting it back in the bug, some kids from the neighbourhood decided to fill it up with junk, so at least the new tank is clean.

We hope to see you all again next year, hopefully it won’t clash with RTTS, and I know there is no world cup next year so attendance will be at its usual next year.
