Cruise to Vanfest
Vanfest
is coming up on 17/18/19th September 1999 at the Three Counties Showground,
Malvern, Worcestershire. This year the Type 2 Club have offered us a
Club Stand and a Club Camping area and we would very much like to take
them up on it!
Some
of you may remember the big ‘VW’ made up of Type 2’s
at Vanfest in 1997 (see right). Well, this year, the plan is to make
up a picture of ‘THE BIG BAY’! to celebrate 50 years of the
Transporter! About 700 Vans are needed and they must sign up by the
end of July so that the display can go ahead to its full effect! So,
if any of you Type 2 owners fancy getting involved, please send/ring/email
your details, ASAP so I can pass them on!
Also available at Vanfest ’99 is the opportunity to go SCAD DIVING!
Basically this event involves a freefall drop into a special suspended
catch air device (scad) ~ it’s the nearest thing to actual skydiving
you can get but with no actual impact! Tickets are limited so if you
fancy having a go ~ ring the Vanfest Info Line on 01235~863664! ANYONE
who fancies going to Vanfest this year and who would like to stay the
weekend in the Club Camping area, let me know as above. CRUISE TO VANFEST:

Volkswagen Festival
This
year the London & Thames Valley VW Club also plan to have a Club
Stand at the British Volkswagen Festival on 3-4th July 1999. The Show
is on at The Three Counties Showground, Malvern, Worcestershire and
a Club Camping area will also be available! Anyone who would like to

by helping out on the Club Stand, please, contact me!

CRUISE
DETAILS: Meet on Friday, 2 July 1999, at The Crown & Treaty Pub
at 11am to leave at 12 noon in order to avoid traffic! From the M25,
leave at J16 onto M40 eastbound( into London). The next junction is
J1/ M40 get off there and head towards Uxbridge on the A4020. The Pub
is about _ mile on the right hand side. Food is available and kids are
welcome in the garden outside, if you fancy a spot of lunch!
TV
/ Photo Shoots
The
Club is often approached by Magazines, the Press and TV Companies for
VW's to use in TV programmes and photo shoots. I recently took part
in a TV Programme for Bravo TV, as a slot about 'Men and their Motors'.
They thought it would be fun featuring a woman on the last one! It was
only two minutes long but me and my two boys (Thomas, 4 and Jamie,2
) had a great time making it! ~ and the boys thought it was wonderful
to see themselves on TV!
I would
just like to thank Trigger, Sal and Andy of Thingamies Beetles in West
Drayton (01895~434109) for all there help and hard work getting the
van looking spic and span at the last minute! If you and/or your VW
would like a glimpse of fame, send in full details of yourself plus
details and a photo of your VW so that we can update the database.
We
would also like to feature Members VW's on the front of Wheelspin every
month so why don't you send us in a picture plus a bit about yourself
and any stories you may have! Don't forget, we welcome any articles,
letters, features and photos from you ~ after all, it is your Magazine!
Club
Quiz Night
Unfortunately
the details of this event went out in the May issue which you would
have received after the event had taken place! Nevermind!!! However,
I would like to thank the Herts VW Club, (who are now one trophy better
off then before!), for their invitation to the Quiz! I would also like
to thank Paula Rowe, Max Morley, Julian Morley and Roman Pestka for
representing the Club. Max tells me that the Team held their own throughout
the Quiz but the Music Section let them down! The final score was......
Well done to everyone who participated and Herts Club ~ watch out next
year....we want to win that Trophy back!
