Detling 2002
Going head-to-head with consistency - Good Friday this year was the warmest
since records began; yet just two days later - its thermals all round
(but then who ever said British weather was predictable).
 |
| Winner! Mark Walters at Detling |
This weather down turn, peculiar to Detling could be a reason for and
the average to poor turnout of visitors, enthusiasts and traders. No coincidence
then the longest queues were to be found extending from the hot drink
and food stalls.
Despite the blue and purple faces of many, Detling - like so many national
VW events extends a Laurel and Hardy handshake to the faithful. Easily
accessible from the M 25 motorway; so no excuses for blase lack of attendance
next year.
The facilities were very good with many VW club stands keenly welcoming.
The concept club (primarily for the New Beetle, was well represented as
it grows from meeting to meeting). The young at heart couple, manning
the Essex VW club stand, again displaying determined smiles to soothe
cold sores.
Biggest smile of the day by far! Club member and keen club organiser
at the Crawley Classic car show (this year on 3rd June) was Mark Walters,
winning a handsome trophy for the best Beetle saloon, with his orange
1302 S Bug (see left & cover up of the last month's Wheelspin).
A good Easter Sunday out, Good VW folk, Good atmosphere.
( Hey - one to attach to your future Easter Sunday VW service).
Del Griffin.
