VW Tech sites

www.aircooled.info

A great resource for tech info, here is what they are about in their owns words...>

aircooled.info aims to be your one stop technical resource for your air-cooled VW project. This site is based on the theory that Volkswagen used mostly the same mechanical parts and principles in their manufacture of aircooled vehicles.

Many of the procedures on this site however are based on those for type 1 vehicles / beetles. Although with a little modification some basic knowledge these can be easily adapted for use on type 2, type 3 and type 4 cars. So this site may be of use to you camper, notchback and squareback owners as well.

The Bug Stop

This site for a texas VW specialist also lists a wide range of technical articles from other sites. This makes it a great central resource for a whole load of

VW tech articles on mechanics, restoring, electrical and modifications.

Rob and Dave's Tech site

A great source for largely text based articles on all sorts of procedures, accessed through a category menu, here is the story of their labour of love>

Rob and Dave met in 1998 through the rec.autos.makers.vw.aircooled newsgroup (a fantastic source of information for aircooled Volkswagen enthusiasts), when Dave was having trouble with his Superbug. Rob responded to his posts, and we have been friends since then.

Rob started working on this site in December 1998, starting with a few of the VW articles he had written. We have been adding heaps more as time allows. Dave has written quite a few "shade tree mechanic" procedures, based on his experience restoring his son's 1973 Super Beetle (literally under a big ash tree in the back yard!). Dave's great at writing procedures, and most of his procedures have been added to the list below.

Our main purpose for assembling these procedures on our Web page is to provide unambiguous, straightforward information that hopefully will help VW enthusiasts who are not necessarily trained mechanics but are willing to get their hands a bit dirty to keep their beauty on the road. We have gleaned the information in our procedures from many sources, then refined and fine-tuned them from our own experience. We hope you will find them useful.
