Mark Samuel's Ghia

I have attached three photos to this mail showing my Karmann Ghia. A little history........

I came across the car when I pulled into a petrol station in Essex in August 2000. It was thick with dust with flat tyres but instantly recognisable. I made enquiries and was told the engine was seized but the owner would let it go for GBP2000.

had it towed to my house approx 1 month later and it has been garaged ever since. The engine was removed and taken to a machine shop where they said it would not be worth repairing. So....that is what I intend to do at some stage this spring, find and fit a new engine and gearbox, cos it was a semi auto and I have been advised to go manual.

I was given three MOT's, the previous owners document and the original owners document from California. THAT IS ALL I HAVE?!?!??!? No history at all.

It has clearly been restored at some stage and is in a very solid condition although the paintwork is oxidised. I never met the previous owner as it was his mates garage it was being stored in. It probably all sounds a little on the iffy side but I am pretty sure its a good car. I do recall the garage owner saying it was a show standard car at some stage since it was imported from the US in 1992.

Hopefully I will be able to get some advice as to who to use for finding a donor car etc in the local area now that I am no longer living in Essex.
Cheers, Mark

PS: - I do have the bumpers but they are off so the car fits tighter in the garage.
