225bhp New Beetle

Volkswagen's design study for the new Beetle
RSi is to make it into production, after a fully fledged road going prototype
was unveiled at this year's Geneva Motor Show.
The RSi has borrowed many aspects from the cars competing in the New Beetle
Cup. It features spoked alloy wheels and wider tires housed within 80mm
wider wheel arches, than the standard production model. At the front the
spoiler and air scoops are taken from their New Beetle Cup racers, as
are the rear tail wing and twin exhausts.
Inside, the RSi is decked out in black and orange,
with plenty of bare aluminium. Recaro front seats and carbon fibre strengthening
underline its sporty nature.

Under the bonnet is a 225bhp 3.2L V6 engine,
based on the 2.8L unit used in the New Beetle Cup cars. This engine unit
will also be used in forthcoming VW and Porsche SUVs.
If you're after one of these racy New Beetles you had better get your
name down quick. VW are set to produce a mere 250 of these special RSi
sportscars, for the European market, and all are left hand drive.
