I was
recently contacted by a researcher with the BBC who remembered me and
my bug, from a film shoot that I did back in November 1998 at Silverstone.
If you recall the outcome from the piece so kindly written by Jean Bartlett,
the film shoot was never televised at the end of the day.
I was
asked if I would like to get involved in some filming for an art programme
which was to feature the design of cars and the producer wanted to use
the example of the Beetle. As anyone would, I jumped at the chance.
There were to be no fees involved, just the pleasure of getting involved
and being a TV celebrity for a couple of minutes.
The
researcher Fiona, and Sebastian the producer came over to my house with
the camera and equipment. I was filmed getting into my vehicle, driving
off my drive. I was also asked to talk about the history of the Beetle,
and the fact that it was created as the Peoples Car. I was
told to speak about my passion for my bug and we had all the local kids
following the shooting of me coming round corners. it was a very enjoyable
and pleasurable experience.
The
shoot ended with me driving my bug back onto my drive and locking the
door. It was planned to be televised at the end of July, but as it is
too be shown on BBC Digital, I would never get to see it, consolation
prize, a video of it (which I have yet to receive!!!)
